Problem

Sweetie Angel Atelier lacks a user-centric branding strategy and online platform, hindering their ability to effectively showcase their work, manage operations, and provide a seamless experience for clients. As a UX designer, how can I develop cohesive branding and a well-designed online platform that caters to the needs of both the owners and clients, empowering the atelier to improve and grow their business while aligning with their commitment to trust, professionalism, and achieving clients' desired beauty goals?

Solution

Created a visually striking website for Sweetie Angel Atelier that showcases their unique nail art, reinforces brand identity, and highlights their commitment to healthy, trendy nail designs, all aimed at boosting their online presence and attracting new clients.

Impact

The new website transformed Sweetie Angel Atelier's online presence, showcasing their work and client testimonials in a professional manner, which helped build trust and attract new customers to the small nail salon.

The data speaks:

Understanding user perspectives on Business Website

The research aims to evaluate the impact of website presence on both stakeholders and end-users in the context of small businesses. Through a mixed-methods approach, I seek to uncover key user needs, pain points, and expectations regarding small business websites. The following is a summary of my findings:

  • 68% of consumers say they're more likely to consider buying from a small business that has a website (Top Design Firms, 2023)

  • 57% of internet users say they won't recommend a business with a poorly designed website on mobile (SocialMediaToday, 2023)

  • 75% of consumers admit to making judgments on a company's credibility based on their website design (Stanford Web Credibility Research, 2021)

  • 38% of users won’t engage with a website if its layout is unattractive (Zippia, 2023)

Initial Thinking

Target Users

  • Clients who look to book appointment at Sweetie Angel Atelier

  • Clients who searching and looking for a suitable nail salon/ based on locations

Research Methods

  • Existing System

  • 5 interviews from usual clients of Sweetie Angel Atelier

How Might We Question?

01

How might we design an intuitive navigation system that caters to both new and returning clients?

02

How might we showcase the atelier's nail designs and quality in a way that inspires clients and demonstrates expertise?

03

How might we communicate policy, pricing and services clearly to manage client expectations?

User Testing Insights

01

Cluster layout

Users expressed discomfort with the dense clustering of text and indicated a preference for more visual elements.

02

More information pages

Users want additional informative pages, including sections for privacy policies, a gallery, gift cards, and booking guidelines.

High-fidelity Design

Initial Hi-Fi & Usability Tests

The user experience focuses on the services and pricing of the nail salon website. For the high-fidelity design, I’ve developed slight variations of the Services page for A/B testing to determine user preferences.

  • Test whether a full-page design combining Hands & Pedicure services is too lengthy for users to navigate effectively.

  • Compare user engagement between Version 1 (minimal design) and Version 2 (photo-rich design) of the Hands services page to determine which layout is more effective.

  • Evaluate if a standalone Pedicure page provides sufficient content or if users find it too brief.

  • Assess the user journey through the services pages to determine if the current number of steps is optimal or excessive.

Reflection

Takeaways

REFLECTIONS

Throughout this project, I encountered my first experience working directly with a client outside of the structured environment of a Boot Camp. Initially, I grappled with self-doubt, questioning my knowledge, and skills.

As I progressed through the UX process, I focused on applying the methodologies and tools I had learned, adapting them to the specific needs of this project. I conducted user research, created personas, developed wireframes, and iterated on my designs based on feedback.

RESULTS
The client's positive response to the final deliverables was both reassuring and enlightening. Their compliments not only validated my efforts but also provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of my UX approach.

This project has been a significant milestone in my UX career, marking my transition from a student to a practicing professional. It has reinforced my passion for user-centered design and my commitment to delivering impactful solutions.
